Happy Dyngus Day!...... & More Easter

Growing up in a family from polish decent had it's fun times and one of those fun times for a kid was Dyngus day. The Polish tradition on Easter Monday. It is celebrated by everyone with enthusiasm by sprinkling each other with water. As kids we used pussy willow branches and dipped them in water.... then sprinkling the water from the branch on our victim. They say by being splashed with water on Easter Monday will bring you good luck throughout the year. I have heard other's say that if a certain boy splashes you with water...he is sure to marry you. Either way it's a fun tradition with fond memories.

We also have a few traditions concerning Easter Sunday. Following Mass...we return home to eat the food blessed from the day before on Holy Saturday. The Easter table is covered with a white tablecloth. On the middle of the table in our home are colored eggs, cold meats, coils of sausages, ham, pound cakes, and a lamb made of butter. It's also tradition to share blessed eggs with the members of our family and wish each other good health, happiness for the rest of the year. Below are a few images from our Easter. I hope your Easter was lovely. ~amy

Thank you Cynthia. I'm trying to keep the traditions alive. It's nice to know someone else likes horseradish. As usual...I am the only one in the family who likes it. Thanks again for following Cynthia! ~amy

You have such pretty pictures! I never even heard about an Easter Monday. Is that only an Polish tradition?

Yes, we're building. Just my husband and myself. He's almost 69 and I will be 56. Our living room has scaffolding, 2 large table saws, 1 large ladder, an abundance of tools and lumber AND then there is the scrap lumber. So, how do you even begin to make a home around an abundance of building items? It gets pretty discouraging. So I plant and photograph.
